Muhammad Hairi, Official of "Aiq Pindang"

Muhammad Hairi, who is now an official, has not forgotten his parents' hard work. His current position as head of the East Lombok Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertras) is inseparable from his parents' struggle to fight for Beberok Aiq Pindang.

Sasak terminology "Aiq Pindang" or in Indonesian means water from boiled fish, especially fish pindang. Fish pindang itself is not the name of a fish, but rather a type of fish processing that is still applied by local people (Lombok) until now.

In Lombok, "Aiq Pindang" is one type of fish processing that is still sustainable. No wonder, some areas make "Aiq Pindang" a superior commodity and remain attached.

One of them is Rumbuk Village, Sakra District, East Lombok Regency. Rumbuk Village is famous for "Beberok Aiq Pindang" which if translated means processed raw tomato chili sauce typical of Lombok mixed with processed fish water.

adbmi.org - The proverb "The peanut forgets its skin" is an expression that people often say to others who seem arrogant when they are rich and have power.

However, this statement does not apply to an official from Rumbuk Village, Sakra District, who now serves as Head of the Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertras) of East Lombok Regency.

Call him Muhammad Hairi, or more familiarly known as Mr Hairi, the official who currently occupies the highest throne in immigration affairs in East Lombok district.

A man with brown skin, gray hair, and wearing a typical official's suit every day does not make him forget his origins. Well, the phrase "peanuts forget their skin" does not apply to him.

In between his visits to Jerowaru Village, Jerowaru District, Hairi said that he grew up from the proceeds of selling Aiq Pindang or water from boiled fish. Or fish pindang.

"My parents used to be able to send their children to school from the proceeds of selling Aiq Pindang," he explained to dozens of participants in the Terasi Packaging training at the Indonesian Migrant Workers Service and Protection Center (BP3MI NTB), 08/12/2024.

He made this statement not without reason, he wanted to motivate the participants, most of whom are families of Indonesian migrant workers who are struggling with the fishy smell of shrimp paste.

Hairi continued, that Rumbuk Village has been famous for Beberok Aiq Pindang since long ago. This is the characteristic of Rumbuk Village.

"Whenever someone mentions Rumbuk, the identity of Beberok Aiq Pindang is definitely attached. Especially vice versa," explained the Head of the Lotim Manpower Office.

He hopes that shrimp paste entrepreneurs in Jerowaru Village can also do the same, introducing the uniqueness of local products that are characteristic of the village.

"I hope that Terasi Jor from Jerowaru Village will be even more famous. This will become the branding of Jerowaru Village which is famous for Terasi," said the "Aiq Pindang" official.
