Middle East Red Zone, Suspected Victim of Human Trafficking Changes Tekong 5 Times

Countries in the Middle East have been closed by the Indonesian government since 2015. Many people do not know this. Many community members set out to become Indonesian migrant workers using pilgrimage or travel visas. The impact is that there is no legal force in terms of protection.

The victims were promised decent jobs with high salaries. Not only that, they are also often given a bonus in the form of security deposit before leaving. NY residents of East Lombok are no exception, who have changed tekong 5 times and had medical check-ups many times.

Middle East Red Zone, Suspected Victim of Human Trafficking Changes Tekong 5 Times

adbmi.org - Recently, a resident from East Lombok Regency was found who was thrown away by tekong or PL in Anjani village, Suralaga subdistrict, East Lombok regency. He was thrown away because he gave up his intention to become a prospective Indonesian migrant worker.

According to the alleged victim's NY statement, he was promised to work in the Middle East with Saudi Arabia as his destination. Due to his ignorance about departure procedures, he finally agreed to the invitation.

This is the first time for this person to try their luck as a migrant worker. He chose to become a PMI because he was hampered by family economic problems.

NY did not receive definite information regarding the proper and correct procedures for leaving to become PMI. He was even asked to take care of all the documents for departure outside the area.

Meanwhile, law number 18 of 2017 concerning the protection and empowerment of Indonesian migrant workers and their families notes that all processes and procedures for leaving to become PMI must be completed in the area of origin.

"I only wrote a letter at the village office, a family permission letter. The rest will be handled by the tekong in Jakarta," explained NY, 6/7/2024.

Apart from that, the government has also closed the meeting on departures to the Middle East through Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Decree number 260 of 2015. This is because of the many problems affecting workers.

Not a few Indonesian migrant workers have experienced torture, rape, worker exploitation and many other considerations from the government.

He also tried a single channel placement system (SPSK) and revoked Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Decree number 260 of 2015. However, this was also abandoned and SPSK is still in the evaluation process.
